ANTICIPATED SNOW & ICE MAY CREATE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ACROSS REGION
Beginning early Friday morning, February 12 and continuing through Monday, February 15; anticipated snow and ice could create extremely hazardous driving conditions in West Central Georgia.
Snow and ice has been predicted for West Central Georgia and is expected to continue early Friday morning and continue throughout the day. Accumulations and sub-freezing temperatures are anticipated. Treacherous driving conditions could develop throughout west central Georgia and the public is advised to avoid all but absolutely necessary travel.
After nightfall, moisture on roadways will freeze; dangerous black ice may be prevalent.
Georgia DOT crews will be monitoring the roads and begin treating as needed. West Central Georgia crews will be activated well in advance of any icing in the area. The Department’s first priority is maintaining interstate and major federal and state highways. Georgia DOT does not have the resources to routinely treat city streets and county roads.
Again, the public is encouraged to refrain from driving if possible; consult Georgia DOT for road conditions via www.georgia-navigator.com or by dialing 511; and utilize extreme caution if driving is necessary.
