Atlanta Braves Searching for Bands to Perform Before 2009 Braves Home Games

The Atlanta Braves are looking for bands who think they have what it takes to energize and entertain thousands of fans at Turner Field before a home Braves game in 2009. Country, rock, pop, cover, or original bands can submit their information for review at www.braves.com/bravesbands.

"There is an abundance of great musical talent in our region," said Scott Cunningham, Braves Director of Game Entertainment. "This contest gives us an opportunity to tap into the wealth of talent for our fans to enjoy, while supporting up and coming musicians by providing them a venue and audience at the major league level."

Bands selected to perform before a home game during the 2009 season will receive free tickets for their members to that night's game and a special discount code to pass along to their loyal followers to see them live in action.

One group will be named the "Braves Band of the Year" and win a free suite to the final home game of 2009. The "Band of the Year" will be chosen by the Braves game entertainment staff, who will judge the groups based on combination of factors including crowd participation and enthusiasm.

Deadline Approaching for Marley & Me Creative Writing Contest

/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- What can the world's worst dog possibly be thinking? Weekly Reader Custom Publishing wants to know. Twentieth Century Fox and Weekly Reader Custom Publishing are still accepting entries for its Marley & Me Creative Writing Contest for grades seven through nine.

Marley & Me, which opened at $14.7 million on Christmas Day alone and grossed $37 million that weekend, is about life, love, family -- and the world's most rambunctious dog. The film stars Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston, Eric Dane and Alan Arkin. It was directed by David Frankel, from the screenplay by Scott Frank and Don Roos, based upon the best-selling book by John Grogan.

This original classroom program builds on the appeal of the movie to encourage students to write a story up to 300 words from the point of view of an animal. Entrants 13 years or older are encouraged to log onto www.weeklyreader.com/marley to submit their entry online. Entries can also be mailed. Deadline is January 30, 2009.

"We are excited to host the Marley & Me Writing Contest," said Elizabeth Gabler, President, Fox 2000 Pictures. "The contest will give children the opportunity to express themselves by showing their literary creativity. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the imaginative and original ideas coming from entrants. Who knows, maybe there is a budding screenwriter out there."

The grand prize winner will receive a $2,000 Best Buy gift card and have a $500 donation made in their name to their animal charity of choice. One first prize winner will receive an $800 Best Buy gift card and one second prize winner will receive a $500 Best Buy gift card. Five Runner Up Winners will receive $50 Best Buy gift cards. Teachers who encourage their students to enter are also eligible to win prizes.

This original writing contest, coordinated by Weekly Reader Custom Publishing, meets national language arts standards for grades seven through nine.

Submissions will be judged on creativity and originality; relevance to contest theme; language mechanics (grammar and spelling); and adherence to contest rules.

AirTran Airways, Danica Patrick Put Atlanta Gamers in the Driver's Seat

Atlanta Chosen as "Biggest Loser"

24-7 - Mari Garner, founder and owner of The American Boot Camp Company, Atlanta's leading results based fitness company, has been chosen by Atlanta's NBC affiliate, 11Alive, to be one of only two trainers to lead Atlanta's very own The Biggest Loser contest using the same guidelines as the well-known national smash hit TV reality show.

Beginning August 25, 2008, hopeful contestants will submit video applications to be selected on one of two finalist teams. The top 12 finalists will weigh in live on September 17 and begin their 12-week journey to become Atlanta's Biggest Loser. Every Tuesday, contestants will weigh-in and one contestant will be eliminated. Viewers tuning into 11Alive will receive updates and tips from Mari Garner on Wednesday's and Friday's and will be able to see how her team shrinks when they appear live every other week. 3. PRIZE/APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE "ARV": Three (3) Grand Prizes -- Each Grand Prize consists of a trip to chosen game as listed. Grand Prize winner will receive (2) two roundtrip coach AirTran Airways tickets, from an airport AirTran Airways currently serves ONLY to game destination. Additionally winner will receive a tax assistance check stated as a general amount based on the average approximate retail value of all available Fly Away prizes, determined to be $450.
