Statement of Governor Sonny Perdue Regarding the Resignation of EPD Director Carol Couch

Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the resignation announcement of Georgia Environmental Protection Division Director Carol Couch, who has accepted a faculty position at the University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design:

“Dr. Couch has been an invaluable member of this administration for more than six years. Serving as the first female director of the EPD, she has passionately defended our natural resources, worked closely with the business community to implement sustainable environmental policies and led our technical team in water negotiations with our neighboring states. She also led the enormous task of drafting a proposal to create Georgia’s first Statewide Water Management Plan, helping it receive passage from the General Assembly and implementing the plan through the Regional Water Councils. Dr. Couch’s faculty position at UGA will enable her to tackle new challenges and allow us to retain her considerable knowledge and experience. I appreciate her dedication while serving our state and I look forward to her continued contributions to Georgia in the future.”
