The Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health and officials of Eagles Landing Christian Academy in Henry County have agreed to follow current federal recommendations on H1N1 probable cases, and will temporarily suspend all classes until the CDC confirms the status of a student who has become ill.
The specimen was sent for further testing during the weekend. Turnaround time to get confirmation from the CDC lab is approximately 48 hours.
"We recognize this may be an inconvenience but at this moment it is the best prevention step we can take on behalf of the health of students and faculty members," said Dr. Sandra Ford, Acting Director of the Division of Public Health."
The CDC interim school guidance recommends school closure for 14 days for any probable or confirmed cases.
During the weekend, the GPHL sent three probable cases to the CDC lab. As of Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 9 p.m., Georgia only has one confirmed case of H1N1.
