Dan and Kathelen Amos to Accept the American Cancer Society's 'Visionary' Award

PRNewswire/ -- Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos and Aflac Foundation President Kathelen Amos today accepted the American Cancer Society's "Visionary" award for 2007-2008. Mr. and Mrs. Amos received the award on behalf of Aflac during a morning ceremony at Aflac's worldwide headquarters in Columbus, Ga.

The award was presented by American Cancer Society Senior Vice President for the State of Georgia Georgette Porter in recognition of the company's three major fundraising events in Muscogee County held between September 2007 and August 2008, including a golf tournament, the Relay For Life and the Crystal Ball. All told the company raised almost $536,000 to help support cancer research in the Columbus region.

"We are pleased to accept this award on behalf of the Aflac family. Aflac's involvement with and our support of the mission of the local chapter of ACS goes back to our roots and demonstrates a common commitment to provide help and support for cancer patients and their families," Kathelen Amos said. "The efforts of our employees as volunteers and fundraisers, in addition to our corporate financial support, reflect our belief in the importance of ACS and its role in the fight against cancer."

Georgette Porter said, "The ultimate goal of total cancer control will only be reached through sustained research. Aflac appreciates the impact of the American Cancer Society and continues to annually support our mission, which is why we are recognizing the company today."
