BIO International Convention Looks Ahead to Atlanta

BUSINESS WIRE--The BIO International Convention will travel back East to Atlanta, Ga. in 2009. Sponsored by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the 2009 global event for biotechnology will take place May 18-21, 2009 at the Georgia World Congress Center. The day pattern for the 2009 convention will change to Monday Thursday schedule.

We are very excited to come to Atlanta next year and expect that the convention will continue to grow and thrive, said BIO president and CEO Jim Greenwood. Industry leaders in Georgia have already put a lot of thought and effort into making next years event a great success.

With the nations seventh-largest biotech cluster, Georgia is home to a number of life-science companies and research universities, as well as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Carter Center for Global Health Initiatives.

Georgia has a robust life sciences industry and world class research universities that collaborate closely to form a strong life sciences community, said Charles Craig, president of Georgia Bio. Atlanta is the geographic center of the south-east and serves as a gateway to the global life sciences industry for the region. We are looking forward to acting as regional host to such an important international event.

Industry leaders from around the globe are expected to attend the event. The state of Georgia is home to 270 pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, diagnostic, ag-biotech and biofuels companies.

Atlanta also boasts a number of hotels and local attractions, as well as a convenient international airport with a major connecting hub to locations all around the globe.

The BIO International Convention helps to support the associations programs and initiatives. BIO works throughout the year to create a policy environment that enables the industry to continue to fulfill its vision of bettering the world through biotechnology innovation.
